Mt. Province, Philippines – Criminal activities continue to decline in Mountain Province’s capital, Bontoc in the second quarter of the year.

The town, being the center of commerce and government, houses over 24,104 individuals as per Philippine Statistics Authority 2020 data.

Even with said number of people residing in Bontoc, crime incidents kept dropping with only nine cases monitored from April to June 21, 2023. This was reported by Bontoc Police Chief, PMaj. Pedro Tactay during the town’s Municipal Peace and Order Council meeting on June 21 as cited by Bontoc Municipal Information Office.

The nine cases, which are 6 incidents lower than the ones recorded for the first quarter of the year, are composed of 2 physical injuries, rape, 2 cases of illegal gambling, arson, attempted rape, and two road accidents.

Tactay further revealed that they documented 167 violations of Municipal Traffic Code from the said period. There were also 85 illegal parking and 24 cases of obstruction among other citation tickets they issued.

A total of P33,750 has been generated from said municipal ordinance violations.

The crime drop in Bontoc and the continuous implementation of ordinances in the town were attributed by the Chief of Police to the sustained checkpoint operations of the police, foot, and mobile patrol, the presence of CCTV cameras, and the continuous support of the community, the LGU, and the stakeholders.
