Book mapping Lubuagan’s culture soon to be published

Updated: Jul 5, 2022

Lubuagan, Kalinga — In pursuit to preserve its culture, a book chronicling Lubuagan municipality’s heritage will soon be published, following the completion of its cultural mapping on June 16, 2022.

Tourism Officer Ansherina Odiem-Mosing narrated that the work started when the Local Government Unit of Lubuagan through the Tourism Section requested for assistance from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in tracing the municipality’s heritage and compiling them.

Their request was granted in 2019 and the actual mapping started in December 2021. Six months later, the data classified into natural heritage, immovable, movable, and intangible heritage including personalities and institutions were gathered and documented by cultural mappers with the community.

After data validation, Mosing said that the Local Cultural Profile will be finalized before publication.

Outgoing Mayor Charisma Anne Dickpus expressed the importance of preserving the culture of Lubuagan since the people who possess the knowledge of Lubuagan’s cultural heritage will not live forever. And thus, the move to write the information down shall enable the younger and next generation to maintain their connection to the culture and tradition.

“Haan tayo met mai-preserve nu dengdenggen tayo lang. Nu addan tu dayta libro a pagbasaran, diay tu met iti basis nga maingibaga karkaru kadagiti ubbing nga daytoy iti culture tayo,” she said.

Dickpus added that the book will serve as reference to teach students about Lubuagan’s culture.
