Flora, Apayao – The body of a 12-year-old boy who drowned in the Apayao River in Bagutong, Flora, was finally found Monday, May 30, after a 31-hour search and retrieval operation.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Apayao identified the victim as Charles Andallo, a grade 7 student at San Jose Integrated School in Flora.

In a report by the Police Regional Office Cordillera, the boy, along with 4 other relatives, went to the said river on May 29 to wash their clothes and motorcycle when the incident happened.

Although warned by his relatives to stay at the riverbank while washing the motorcycle, Andallo was later on seen in the middle of the river drowning and asking for help.

Alvarez Andres, one of his companions, tried to save him but was not able to do so because of the strong current of the murky river.

On the same day, BFP – Flora related that a search and rescue operation was launched after receiving a call regarding the drowning incident.

Unfortunately, they failed to find the victim on that day. Thus, another retrieval operation was conducted on Monday, May 30, with the help of personnel from Pudtol, Luna, Sta. Marcela Fire Stations, OPFD-Apayao, and the Philippine Army that resulted in the recovery of the remains of the adolescent in Barangay Simmayong, Abulug, Cagayan.
