Bontoc, Mt. Province - The grieving family of a 22-year-old criminology student in Bontoc, Mountain Province, is appealing to the public as they seek justice for the young man’s untimely death following an alleged brutal beating.

Based on a medical report examining the cause of death, the victim, Jeffgart Dongpopen, died from brain herniation syndrome and severe traumatic injuries believed to have been caused by physical assault. He was hospitalized after the beating but passed away on April 8.

According to Jeffgart’s relative, interviewed by Bombo Radyo Baguio, the beating incident occurred on April 5 at a restobar in Samoki, Bontoc, but they have no idea what happened. Thus, the family is now urging anyone who witnessed or has relevant information to report it to the investigators and assist them in identifying those responsible for the crime.

Their plea is driven by a strong desire to bring justice for Jeffgart and to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Meanwhile, in a phone interview of said media with the Bontoc Municipal Station, the police confirmed that an investigation is currently ongoing and that they are encouraging potential witnesses to come to their office to help solve the case.

Jeffgart's body is at their residence for his wake, where his family, friends, and the community mourn the loss. The victim was described by his uncle as kind, hardworking, and the breadwinner of the family.
