Updated: Nov 22, 2020

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Despite having low sales since the onset of Covid-19 crisis, the Bulanao Public Market Stall Owners, Vendors, and Consumers Association members never thought twice in extending help through relief goods to places affected by Typhoon Ulysses.

“Alla awan naglaklakwan da,” Jamillah Sallidao, one of the officers of the said association joked in an interview. “Pero ang saya saya,” she supplemented, describing the feeling of being able to help others.

According to Jamillah, their donation drive started when she read the news about Rizal at GURU Press Cordillera.

“Nakitak jay post yu regarding ngay diyay Rizal, nakitak diyay so I shared sa group. Ni apay ngay nga puro Cagayan, adda met gayam ti affected ditoy ayan tayo. So we started ijay Rizal,” she narrated.

She said that upon learning the situation of four barangays in Rizal, members of the association donated items from the goods they are selling. This was why they were able to collect assorted goods such as clothing, bread, grocery items, bottled water, sleepers, and others, she said.

They first went to Rizal, Kalinga this November 15 to give relief goods. However, since they were able to collect plenty of donations, they continued going to Enrile, Cagayan.

“Kunami nagadu met daytoy naurnong what if ipan tayo ijay Cagayan and then jay meeting mi, napagtutungan mi Enrile. So naki-coordinate kami ken Mayor, inaccept na met diyay relief tayo," she narrated.

After Enrile, the group proceeded to Riverside in Tuguegarao City.

Meanwhile, Jamillah after seeing the aftermath of Ulysses to these areas expressed that Kalinga is still lucky for being spared from what Cagayan and other provinces experienced.

“As in pitak piman. Hindi mo alam kung saan ka magi-start, makitam ngay nga as in kakaasi da. So nagswerte tayo latta nga taga Tabuk, nagswerte tayo nga taga Kalinga kasi wala tayong ganun na nararanasan,” she said.

Meantime, Jahmillah added that the association will be extending relief to Pinukpuk, Linao, and Isabela this week.
