Burned car found in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya may be linked to Aparri Vice Mayor ambush


Cagayan, Philippines – Authorities in Nueva Vizcaya are now investigating the unidentified vehicle burned in Barangay Uddiawan, Solano after the ambush of Aparri, Cagayan Vice Mayor and his five companions.

Vice Mayor Rommel Alameda who was described as a person of good standing was killed along with five others identified as Alexander Agustin Delos Angeles, 47; Alvin Dela Cruz Abel, 48; Abraham Dela Cruz Ramos Jr, 48; John Duane Banag Almeda, 46; and Ismael Nanay.


The vice mayor and his group died after their vehicle was riddled with bullets around 8:45 a.m. on February 19 along the national road in Baretbet, Bagabag. The suspects who are believed to be at least six people were onboard a white Mitsubishi Adventure with plate number SFN 713.


Following the incident, the police in Solano were alerted by the punong barangay in Uddiawan about a burning vehicle found in Purok 3, just near the Uddiawan National High School.

Arriving at the place, authorities saw this burned white Mitsubishi Adventure without a plate number. The residents told the police they first heard several gunshots before they discovered the car that might be linked to the ambush.


The Nueva Vizcaya Police Provincial Office earlier created a Special Investigation Task Group that will handle the case.
