Burnham Baywatch implemented to ensure security

Baguio City, Philippines – Aside from the wearing of life vests, ‘baywatch’ is now also being implemented in Baguio City’s Burnham Lake.

The move by boat concessionaires and operators was made to further ensure the safety and security of boat riders and passengers in the summer capital’s man-made lake.

Baywatch is done by stationing a boat at the center of the lake. The boat has a person with a megaphone who watches and reminds passengers of the Dos and Don’ts while they are onboard the boat.

This is because they noticed that some of the customers used to stand while they are on the boat which may result in accidents.

In a statement, Hilda Balana, one of the boat concessionaries emphasized that they are now following a schedule and every boat operator has assigned one representative to serve as a watchman.

To recall, the city government of Baguio, through an ordinance, has recently mandated the use of live vests for both boat rowers and passengers while on board their boats.

Said ordinance was implemented to ensure the safety of the tourists in the lake following a boating mishap that happened on the site on March 23, 2023, resulting in at least 7 tourists and a local rower being rushed into a hospital in the city.
