Driver of Tabuk City road crash in police custody, charges filed

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The bus driver involved in the Lacnog road crash that claimed the life of a 49-year-old woman was subjected to an inquest proceeding today, Nov. 13.

Diosdado Valdez, 48, a resident of Quezon City, was charged with Reckless Imprudence Resulting in homicide, multiple injuries, and damage to property, Kalinga Police Spokesperson, PCapt. Ruff Manganip told GURU Press Cordillera.

The charges are about the traffic accident that transpired on Sunday evening, Nov. 12 along the national road in Lacnog.

Valdez was driving a Victory Liner sleeper bus bound for Cubao, Quezon City when he attempted to overtake a motorcycle ferrying a family of four. Unfortunately, the bus hit the smaller vehicle after the latter allegedly turned left and it was already too late for the driver to hit the brakes.

The collision killed Joy Alos and injured her husband, Daniel, who was confined at the hospital. Their two kids also sustained minor injuries.

As for those who tried to destroy the sleeper bus after the accident, Manganip relayed that their identities are now being established by police investigators should Victory Liner file for a countercharge for the damages incurred by the vehicle.

“Gapu ta nakaad-adu iti tao haan nga ma-identify nu asinnu dagiay adda idiay isu nga awan iti nangyari nga tiliw... awan iti mangitudo nu asinnu dagiay nga tattao,” he said.

The need for traffic education

With the incident, Manganip once again emphasized the need for traffic education which he said is the one lacking among the three “Es” of traffic – engineering, enforcement, and education.

“Iti makitkita mi talaga nga kurang ket daytoy education isu nga daytoy ti makitkita mi nga maysa nga problem ditoy Kalinga … nu dakami lang iti ag-suggest whole nation approach kuma,” he said.
