Cagayan, Apayao, Benguet back to MECQ for 14 days

Tabuk City, Kalinga―The provinces of Cagayan, Apayao, and Benguet have been shifted back to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) from May 10 to 23, 2021 as coronavirus continues to threaten lives and livelihoods in the areas.


Earlier, the three provinces were placed under the more relaxed general community quarantine (GCQ) status until May 31.


The change of quarantine status is based on the latest Resolution No. 114-C issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) on May 9 and was released by the Palace this May 10.



The resolution reads “that upon the recommendation of the Screening and Validation Committee, Cagayan, Apayao, and Benguet shall be placed under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine from May 10, 2021, to May 23, 2021.”


It further stated that the risk-level classifications of the provinces that the reclassification was due to the criticality of the situation.

According to Department of Health as of May 9, Cagayan have logged a total of 10,504 CoViD-19 cases including 1,317 active cases and 103 deaths.


While Benguet recorded a total of 7,865 CoViD-19 cases including 400 active cases and 143 deaths, Apayao listed 936 cases with 53 active cases and four deaths.


More than 1.1 million people have been infected with the coronavirus. Of which, 61, 294 active cases while up to 18,000 others died in the country.
