Cagayan Valley records 52 more Delta variant cases, Batanes remains Delta-free

Cagayan, Philippines – On September 13, the Department of Health-Region 2 reports an additional 52 cases of the more infectious Covid-19 Delta Variant coming from all provinces of the region, except for Batanes which has no record of the variant as of this writing.


Cagayan Valley, according to DOH-Region 2, is one among the regions in the country to have recorded the highest cases based on the latest genome sequencing conducted by the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC) and the University of the Philippines-National Institutes of Health (UP-NIH).


Of the total cases, 12 are from the province of Cagayan, particularly from Alcala (3), Aparri (1), Baggao (4), Iguig (3), and Tuguegarao City (1).

Nueva Vizcaya, on the other hand, has 10 cases of which 2 was reported in Aritao, 1 each from Bagabag, Bambang , Dupax del Norte and Kasibu and 4 from Bayombong.


For Quirino Province, 2 cases came from Aglipay, 1 from Cabarroguis, 3 from Diffun, and 2 from Maddela. All the cases from said provinces are local cases and are already tagged as recovered.


For Isabela, which has 22 new Delta cases, 10 cases are from the City of Santiago, 1 each from Jones, Quezon, Ramon, San Isidro, San Manuel, and Santo Tomas, and 3 each from San Agustin and San Mateo. Said cases are all local cases and have fully recovered, except the Covid-19 patient from San Isidro and 1 from San Mateo.

DOH Region 2 said the Special Action Team (SAT) of the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) is now conducting intensive case finding and contact tracing regarding said cases.


Presently, the region has a record of 9,347 active Covid-19 cases.
