Calanasan, Apayao set to join 'Festival of Festivals' after dominating Say-am's street dance 2023

Apayao, Philippines – Winning the Say-am Festival's street dancing tilt 2023 served as a gate pass for Calanasan town in Apayao to soon join the Festival of Festivals, a combination of all the major festivals in the Cordillera region.

Featuring their very own “Banamba” Festival, Calanasan’s entry was inspired by the Isnag tribe's indigenous way of protection known to locals as “Lapat.” Banamba is their term for the mighty Philippine Eagle, the country’s national bird.

To recall, the town was brought to the limelight in 2015 when the first active Philippine Eagle nest in Luzon was discovered. This landmark discovery not only confirmed the presence of eagles in the lush forests of Calanasan, but it also serves as strong proof that Lapat is resulting in clear biodiversity conservation outcomes, said its tourism office.

The town’s performance depicted the positive impacts of practicing the said system.

As the grand champion, the Calanasan seized P100,000 and a plaque of recognition, while Pudtol received P80,000 cash prize for ranking second.

Flora landed third and was therefore awarded P60,000 prize.

Right after the proclamation of all winners, the Regional Director of the Department of Tourism - Cordillera announced that the winning entry will represent the province in the 'Festival of Festivals' to be held in Baguio City come October 2023.

A consolation prize amounting to P15,000 was provided to each of the other participating towns.
