Capsized rescue boat of 4 missing coast guards in Cagayan found

Appari, Cagayan – While the aluminum boat of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) that capsized during a rescue mission was found, rescuers who were then on board are still missing.

The boat was retrieved by authorities Sunday, July 30, in Barangay Fuga, Appari, Cagayan.

Report of the PCG disclosed the boat was sighted floating 7 miles away from Calayan Island in Cagayan by motor vessel (MV) Eagle Ferry.

The rescue boat, as recalled, overturned while the rescuers were about to aid seven crew members aboard a tugboat, M/Tug Iroquois 21 nautical miles from Appari, Cagayan during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Egay last week.

Report said the crew members are now in safe condition after they run aground in the waters of Barangay Balatubat in Camiguin Island.

Meantime, aerial and surface search continues today, July 31, to locate the four rescue personnel whose identities remain undisclosed.
