Happy 20th anniversary to GURU Press! How time flies for this publication to serve in providing news and publication to the Cordillera region. While GURU has been around this long, I have just started working with the publication for 2 years taking over my father, Rev. Luis L. Ao-as in 2022. Since joining the publication, I was able to stay connected with the latest news in Tabuk even though I live in the US.
In a way, this publication has served as my connection to Tabuk. It is a very valuable connection to me especially now with both my parents gone. I used to rely on my parents to keep me updated with the latest and greatest in Tabuk when I call home. Now that they are gone, I am very thankful for GURU press to keep the connection going.
While my contribution to GURU is not necessarily newsworthy, I am able to provide a voice writing my opinion on various matters that may or may not resonate with most; however, could be helpful to others. My column talks about anything in life, things to ponder on and lessons in life.
When I learned about GURU’s anniversary, I have been reflecting on what to write. One thing that I can say about GURU is the appreciation I have for having the opportunity to connect to Tabuk through this publication. As any other news forums, GURU strives to provide the region with news in various ranges. May this be politics related, civic related or simply lifestyle related. When I read GURU Press, I truly have an appreciation of the cultural highlights shared from the different municipalities. It gives me pride seeing the arts, culture and traditions being shared as GURU news personnel travel around the region ensuring to share the happenings in each of the towns and municipalities. I appreciate this very much as these are not necessarily published or highlighted in a national level. It is truly a gem having GURU around for one like me to be able to see the amazing and beautiful cultural arts around Cordillera.
Through GURU press, I can share to my children the hidden beauty of the people in the Cordillera through cultural arts celebrated across the region. With my family currently visiting the Philippines, my family can see and reconnect to the place where I was raised and where they know Lolo and Lola are from. My family is here paying homage to my parents. We are currently on our last week going around the northern region having spent the first week in Tabuk and in Basao visiting relatives.
As you sip your Kalinga brewed coffee today, may you have the GURU press publication in hand, enjoying all the articles and news being shared. It is truly a blessing to still have a publication like GURU Press around for the people of Cordillera. Please join me in congratulating GURU Press for holding strong and continuing to serve the people of Cordillera. Cheers to GURU and may you have more years to celebrate your news service. I for one am proud to be part of the GURU Press Family!
