Chief Tanod in Tuao arrested for raping teen

Tuao, Cagayan – A 59-year-old man was arrested early morning of Monday, October 24, for allegedly raping a mentally disabled teenage girl in Barangay Battung, Tuao, Cagayan, police said.

The suspect identified by police as ‘Rey’, married, the current Chief Tanod of said barangay.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim, a 14-year-old teen whose name is withheld, went to the wake of their neighbor, along with her mother and aunt, at 12:30 AM on said date.

After a while, they noticed the minor was nowhere to be found, which made them search for her but did not find her. However, at 1:30 AM, the victim came back.

When the victim’s mother asked where she went, the daughter said Chief Tanod Rey took him to a hut near them.

Accordingly, the chief tanod allegedly sexually molested the victim in the hut.

Further, it was known that the incident is not the first time the suspect did this to the victim, as he allegedly raped the victim several times in recent days.

After the victim’s mother reported the incident to authorities, Tuao police immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation which resulted in the arrest of the suspect.

During the arrest, the police also confiscated from the suspect a firearm with a holster and a sachet of drugs believed to be marijuana leaves.

The suspect is now facing a statutory rape charge, charges for violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
