Tabuk City, Kalinga – As the Communist Party of the Philippines marked its 54th founding anniversary on December 26, civilians in Kalinga held an indignation rally against the group in Barangay Bulanao.

The CPP was founded by Jose Maria Sison in 1968 but ahead of the CPP anniversary, Sison passed away on December 16 in a hospital in Netherlands at the age of 83.

According to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, there are only around 2,112 remaining members of the communist terrorist group in 2022. Their active guerilla fronts are down to 22 from 89 six years ago. Of the 22, 17 were already classified as weakened while the other 5 are now the subject of military operations.

With the celebration of the CPP’s founding anniversary, the Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo, religious sector, barangay officials, and other advocacy support groups in Kalinga initiated a rally.

Kalinga Police Information Officer, PCapt. Ruff Manganip told Guru Press Cordillera that the event was made by the said groups to denounce violence and the atrocities of the members of the CPP.

It is likewise to show that the yKalingas do not embrace the doctrine the CPP is fighting for, Manganip added.

“It is a peaceful rally nga ipakita da lang nga haan nga kayat iti taga Kalinga iti ini-NPA. So, it is their initiative piman … ipakita da met piman iti support da iti government nga haan da kayaten daytan ta for 54 years that they are reigning, haan da met nga nangabak iti ilablaban da,” he said.

Manganip also informed that the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines had been on red alert for any possible attacks coming from the rebels as they lost their founder and as they celebrate their anniversary this December 26.
