Claims on van abducting children, students in Cagayan are FAKE – PNP

Cagayan, Philippines – Claims about a van abducting children and students in Cagayan are fake, according to the Cagayan police provincial director.

Recently, there have been messages circulating online about supposed students who were kidnapped by a van. These students were said to have managed to escape when they were about to be transferred to another vehicle.

This information has been forwarded and discussed by netizens on Messenger, causing fear among the public.

Through the Cagayan Police Provincial Office Facebook page on January 23, PCol. Julio Gorospe denied the allegation, stating there’s no truth in it based on the ‘validation’ done by the authorities. He added that no formal report about the incident has been submitted to any local police stations in Cagayan so far.

Gorospe assured the public that the police officers in Cagayan are doing their mandate to enforce the law, control criminal activities, and sustain peace and order in the province.

As the authorities conduct a deeper probe into the issue, the police provincial director reminds the public to be responsible for what they post and share on social media platforms.

“Hinihingi lamang nito [provincial director] ang kooperasyon ng publiko na ang pagdudulog ng mga impormasyon ay dapat dumaan sa tamang proseso,” the Cagayan PPO wrote.
