‘Coffee helped us survive and pay for our education’ – Ret. PMGen. Ludan

Updated: 6 days ago

Tanudan, Kalinga – Speaking before his fellow yTanudans during the celebration of the Town’s Kape Festival, Retired Police Major General Steve Ludan shared how coffee production helped his family pay for his education.

Ludan was invited as the guest speaker of the 61st Tanudan Founding Anniversary and 9th Kape Festival celebration on June 24 in Banagao, Poblacion.

The retired regional police director and a Philippine Military Academy alumnus emphasized the importance of coffee, one of the main products of Tanudan, in the success and education of yTanudan children. Through planting coffee, Ludan said, his parents were able to send their kids to school.

“It’s very vivid in my recollection how coffee helped us survive and sustain our education,” he said.

Ludan, who also believes that coffee is a way of life, noted that coffee cultivation in Tanudan is promising. Although farmers face challenges like climate change, he encouraged them to retain farming practices and adopt innovations and follow advice of concerned government agencies to increase production.

“By honoring our traditions, overcoming our challenges, embracing innovative practices, we can ensure that Tanudan coffee remains the symbol of quality and heritage,” he said.

The guest speaker then enjoined the Tanudan constituents to work together in building a thriving coffee industry which will benefit the farmers and the people of Tanudan and Kalinga.
