yKalinga coast guard in coma passes away



Tabuk City, Kalinga – Mori Caguay, the coast guard personnel from Kalinga who was comatose following a Water Search and Rescue Training passed away Monday evening, November 20, 2023.


The 30-year-old who was from Bulanao, Tabuk City, died at 8:14 p.m., according to his family.


Caguay reportedly lost consciousness while they were having a Water Search and Rescue Training or WASAR in Kawit, Cavite on November 16. As seen in the video uploaded online, Caguay was motionless on the water when his colleagues brought him to the boat and performed chest compressions on him.

He was brought to the hospital where he was intubated and diagnosed as ‘brain dead’. It was also found there was blood in his brain, as per his kin.


The Philippine Coast Guard through its Spokesperson Rear Admiral Armando Balilo told the media they have already relieved around 10 personnel relative to the ongoing investigation of the case.


“Nakita ko rin yung video pero ayoko ng mag-comment muna because subject for investigation siya at hayaan na lang muna natin na yung mga eksperto ang magbigay ng comment at lalabas naman yun sa investigation,” he said.


The Caguay family is now clamoring for justice for what happened to their loved one who wanted to join PCG to be of help to his countrymen, especially in times of disaster.
