COMELEC Tinglayan urges qualified voters to register for Barangay and SK elections

Tinglayan, Kalinga – The Commission on Elections – Tinglayan urges the public within the municipality to register for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections set this December 5, 2022.


The office said they are open for registration until July 23, 2022.


They added they are open from Monday to Saturday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the COMELEC office, 2nd floor of the municipal building of Tinglayan.


Satellite registration area for other voters was provided on Saturday in Barangay Luplupa.

Requirements for registration


Those wanting to register should bring with them a valid ID when visiting the office. They may bring with them any of the following IDs – National ID, employee ID, Postal ID, Driver’s License, student ID, SSS/GSIS ID, PRC ID, Senior Citizen’s ID, National PWD ID, among others.


If presented ID does not bear the applicant's date of birth, the applicant is required to present his/her PSA live birth certificate.


Who may register?


For SK voters, they should be at least fifteen (15) but not more than thirty (30) years of age and residing in the barangay for at least six (6) months on or before December 5, 2022, Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.


Regular voters, meantime should be at least eighteen (18) on or before December 5, 2022, a resident of the Philippines for at least one (1) year and in the place wherein he/she proposes to vote, for at least six (6) months immediately preceding the December 5, 2022.

Meantime, the conduct of said election this year is still uncertain as the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos gave no categorical answer to national media when asked if December polls will push through as scheduled or not.


“If you would ask me about barangay elections, if it is going to be postponed or not, we’ve already made some recommendations here to the President. Let’s just wait for his announcement,’’ Abalos said.


As recalled, the Barangay and SK Elections had been postponed thrice during the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
