Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Representative of the Lone District of Kalinga renewed his call for all local leaders in Cordillera to launch a signature campaign to intensify their fight for the region’s quest for self-governance.

In his remark during the 3rd Quarter Meeting of the Regional Development Council held on Thursday, September 08 in Baguio City, Allen Jesse Mangaoang expressed high chance on Marcos administration’s approval of House Bill 3267, establishing Cordilllera Autonomous Region.

In the two previous attempts in the 90s, on January 30, 1990 and on March 07, 1998, the majority of the cordillerans did not support the bid, with only Ifugao favoring yes votes on the first referendum and only Apayao on the second.

Having been enlightened about greater benefits that the region will enjoy from self-rule, such as social development and inclusive growth, efforts have been made for the fulfillment of the collective aspiration of cordillerans for genuine autonomy.

In August, Congressman Mangaoang along with Maximo Dalog Jr. of Mountain Province, Menchie Bernos of Abra, Eleanor Bulut-Begtang of Apayao, Mark Go of Baguio City, Eric Yap of Benguet, and Solomon Chungalao of Ifugao filed before the 19th Congress the said bill.

According to Mangaoang, he already had a dialog with the Representatives of 1st and 2nd District of Ilocos Norte Angelo Marcos Barba and Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos regarding the move and possible meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Meantime, the Kalinga lawmaker asked unity among local leaders to also make a move showing their support.

“If we could only capacitate the governors and the mayors to come up with a signature campaign that all constituents of Cordillera are for autonomy, adda namnama na ti otonomiya.

Aggaraw tayo laeng amin. Ipakita tayo nga united tayo amin,” he stressed.
