Tabuk City, Kalinga – “Regional autonomy is within our reach; we must rally behind our leaders for this endeavor.”

Kalinga Gov. James S. Edubba highlighted this in his message delivered by Vice-Gov. Jocel Baac during the provincial opening of the 36th Cordillera Month celebration Monday, July 03, 2023.

With the presidency of Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos Jr., Edduba believes the opportunities and chances of achieving self-determination are clearer and greater than ever before.

To recall, Marcos from the so-called “Solid North” is among those who pushed for the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

As a province that will directly benefit from the conversion of the region to an autonomous one, the governor stressed Kalinga’s “wholehearted support and cooperation” for the realization of said measure.

“I firmly believe that as an autonomous region, we can have further capacity to accelerate the development of our province… Let us seize this opportunity and work towards achieving our goal,” he said.

As the region marks yet another milestone, it is likewise paramount to ‘reflect on our rich heritage, diverse cultures, and the remarkable journey that has led us to this point.’

“It is an opportunity to celebrate our achievements, honor our ancestors, and strengthen our sense of identity as proud Cordillerans. Through this celebration, we aim to foster a deeper appreciation for our collective history and the contributions we make as a province to the Cordillera region,” Edduba underscored.

It is at the same event attended by Officer-in-Charge of the Office of Civil Defense – Cordillera, Jose Ignacio Valera, Assistant Regional Director, Pepita Picpican of the Department of Science and Technology – Cordillera, local officials, and agencies, that the National Disaster Resilience Month and Nutrition month was launched.
