During the regional council’s 2023 First Quarter meeting held on Thursday, March 09, in Baguio City, the recognition certificate was awarded to Kalinga Governor James Edduba by the RDC’s Private Sector Representatives headed by RDC-Cordillera Co-chairperson, Edna Tabanda.

Governor Edduba was accompanied by the President of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines - Kalinga Chapter, Pasil Mayor Alfredo “Chao-ig” Malannag Jr. in receiving the citation.

Some 3,440 gong players from across Kalinga province performed in unison to win the “Largest Gong Ensemble” in the world. In a separate performance, 4,861 “banga” (pot) dancers danced their way to record the Guinness World’s “Largest Pot Dance.”

Both world titles were staged in this year’s “Awong Chi Gangsa, Agtu’n Chi Banga” (A Call of a Thousand Gongs, A Dance of a Thousand Pots), as adjudicated by Kazuyoshi Kirimura and witnessed by Stanley Anongos of Benguet State University; Atanacio Addog of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples – Cordillera; and Allen Marquez and Kenneth Maslang of St. Mary’s University.
