Cordillera Festival of Festivals to showcase 8 indigenous festivals this October 18

Baguio City, Philippines – A vibrant display of local culture and traditions shall be witnessed this week at the Malcolm Square, Baguio City as the Department of Tourism- Cordillera is set to stage anew the Cordillera Festival of Festivals on Friday, October 18.

 

Now in its third year, the festivity features eight local and indigenous festivals of the region originating from its six provinces and two cities.

 

These include Apayao’s Say-am Festival, Abra’s Kawayan Festival, Benguet’s Adivay Festival, Ifugao’s “Kulpi Ad Ifugao”, Kalinga’s Bodong Festival, Mt. Province’s Lang-ay Festival, Baguio City’s Panagbenga Festival and Tabuk City’s ‘Kopyan Chi Matagoan’.

 

The much-awaited festivity, according to DOT-Cordillera, will be celebrated through a show of cultural presentations, performances, and traditional showcases.

 

“This event is not just a convergence of diverse cultural festivities but also a demonstration of pride and unity among the provinces and cities of the Cordillera Administrative Region,” it added.

 

The agency, on its media release, explained that the decision to organize said event was a result of a vision of boosting the region’s tourism industry. This is in addition to creating a platform that aims to preserve the unique cultural heritage of the region.

 

Apart from that, the annual event also serves as a commemoration of the Indigenous People's Month which is celebrated every October.

 

During the event, participants will have a walk from Upper Session Road to Malcolm Square at 8 a.m. while the actual activities shall transpire from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on said date.

 

“Get the chance to witness the rich local culture and heritage from Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Baguio City, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, and Tabuk City.  See you at the Malcolm Square, Lower Session Road, Baguio City this October 18, 2024,” invites DOT-Cordillera.
