Cordillera records 71% increase in Dengue cases from Jan.-June 2024

Baguio City, Philippines - Dengue cases have continued to increase in the Cordillera region in the last six months.

 

Latest data from the Department of Health - Cordillera showed that a total of 3,922 cases of Dengue in CAR were recorded from January 1 - June 22, 2024. A 71 percent higher compared to the 2,287 cases of the same period in 2023.

 

Of the 3,922 cases, Benguet listed the highest with 1, 545, followed by Baguio City with 648; Mt. Province, 648; Apayao, 276; Ifugao, 262; Kalinga, 130; and Abra, 110.

 

In its press release dated July 2, DOH- Cordillera noted that four individuals already succumbed to the virus. The deaths were recorded in Abra, Apayao, Baguio, and Mt. Province with 1 each.

 

With said health issue, the agency urged the public to follow the “5s” strategies against Dengue. These are the Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, Self-protection measures, Seeking early consultation, Sustaining hydration, and Support fogging in outbreak areas.

 

The regional health department also advised people to consult a doctor immediately when experiencing the symptoms of Dengue.

 

Some of the symptoms are sudden onset of very high fever, severe headache usually at the back of eyes, muscles and joints becomes painful, mild bleeding, and fatigue.
