Cordillera reports P491M infrastructure damage due to magnitude 7.0 quake

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The magnitude 7 earthquake that rocked Northern Luzon on Wednesday, July 27, left the Cordillera Region with P491,170,138.76 worth of damages to infrastructure, the Department of Works and Highways said.


This is only the reported total estimated cost as of July 29, 2022.


Pavement cracks, flood control damages, road slips, landslides, rock slides, and soil collapse, have been observed due to the tremor.


The province which documented the highest damage cost to infrastructures is Abra – P436,130,000.

For other provinces, Benguet has provided a figure of P18,807,138.76 estimated damage to infrastructure, Ifugao – P20,000,000, Kalinga – P16,000,000 and Mt. Province – P133,000.


Baguio City, on the other hand, reported an estimated value of P100,000 worth of infra damage.


The DPWH is now conducting road clearing and securing the safety of infrastructure to ensure that the delivery of goods and services to affected areas will not be hampered.


Meantime, the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera said that Abra, being the epicenter of the quake, reported an initial P11.5 million worth of damages to agricultural infrastructure.


As of this writing, concerned offices in the region are assessing the quake's damage to crops in the provinces.
