Cordilleran cop is bronze medalist in the 2023 World Police and Fire Games

Baguio City, Philippines - Police Staff Sergeant Miguel Carranza has once again brought pride to the Philippines after snatching bronze in the 2023 World Police and Fire Games taking place from July 28 to August 6, 2023, in Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada.

Last year, Carranza, personnel of the Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR), won gold and silver medals in the same event held in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

The World Police and Fire Games is an Olympic-style competition where more than 8,500 athletes representing law enforcement, firefighters, and police officers from more than 50 different nations participate.

Said event was launched in 1985 to bridge gaps and promote camaraderie outside the context of day-to-day work through sports and cultural exchange among emergency responders.

In said event, retired and active men in uniform compete in more than 60 unique sports.

For Carranza, he competed in the 10,000 meters track and field competition, giving him the opportunity to win bronze.

On his Facebook account, Carranza thanked his host family in Canada for their all-out support of the athlete-cop while relaying the good news that he won bronze in the competition.

“…To God be the glory! Special thanks to my cousin ate Jess Gerardo, Kuya Randy, and CJ (my host family here in Winnipeg) for their all-out support and cheering during the race,” his Facebook post reads.

To recall, Carranza was the first Filipino police officer to qualify for the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) in 2017. He completed the 166-kilometer UTMB race from France crossing Italy and Switzerland.
