Cordilleran criminology topnotcher has been preparing for board exam since 1st yr. college

How long should one prepare for the board examination? For Placido Villanueva Abuan III, Top 8 of the April 2023 Criminology Licensure Examination(CLE), he had been gearing up since his freshman year in college.

“I was studying my subjects as if I am already reviewing for the boards,” He told GURU Press Cordillera when he was asked if he aspired to be a topnotcher.

Placido, a graduate of the University of the Cordilleras got a rating of 87.60%. He is one of the 31.84% or 4,139 examinees who passed the CLE in April this year.

While he had been studying for the board exam since his first year college, the 23-year-old topnotcher from Baguio City asserted that reviewing is a process. He cited that one needs to set his mind for the review and that he or she needs to follow a study plan or timeline.

“In short you have to strategize,” he said, adding that he made sure to incorporate the Table of Specification from the Professional Regulation Commission in his review.

Placido revealed he got disappointed and pressured when the calendar of the board exam was moved from June 2023 to April which was why he had to double his study hours, reading from morning to dawn.

Behind every hard work, there are people and for Placido, these are his loved ones whom he wanted to be happy and be proud of him.

Topping the board exam was just the icing on the cake, my ultimate goal was to see them [loved ones] happy and proud of me. Then, of course, God. I always believed in His words to the point that I even have bible verses as the source of my strength and will,” he said.

When asked about his advice to those who will be taking the Criminology Licensure Examination next, Placido reminded them about balancing diligence and rest.

“To the next examinees, always have a plan. Then, balance everything. You also have to rest from time to time,” he said.

He likewise emphasized the importance of college notes and reading extensively.

Placido who graduated from college in August 2022 now plans to take his Master’s Degree before embarking on his next journey.
