Cordilleran doctor conferred Dangal ng Bayan Award for extraordinary public service

Bauko, Mt. Province – One of the country’s most prestigious awards for public service was bestowed to a Cordilleran physician on March 08.

Dr. Annie Claire Pekas who is a Medical Specialist III of the Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital in Bauko received the ‘Dangal ng Bayan Award’ from President Ferdinand Marcos at the Malacañang palace.

The Dangal ng Bayan Award is one of the honor awards being given by the Civil Service Commission to exemplary government workers. This is in acknowledgement of their extraordinary act of public service and consistent ethical behavior.

Pekas, in a message during the International Women’s Day in Mountain Province, shared the prestigious award she received to all the women.

According to Mt. Province PLGU, the Dangal ng Bayan awardee pointed that women are known to be emotionally strong and assertive as they rarely complain. However, many ‘have silent screams kept in the dark’ and others have no choice but to put their sufferings ‘in oblivion’.

Pekas further stressed the need to understand women’s silence saying, “women need a pat on the back when things go well and pat on the back or a hug when things go bad as well. We need to understand their silence and be mindful of their frustrations. Our seemingly formidable women do cry, sometimes they weep in silence.”

Meantime, the doctor called on the public to be a catalyst for change that the women aspire for.

“I stand with everyone as we pause and recognize the status of women in our present-day society, aptly for our theme on promoting gender equality and an inclusive society,” she conveyed.
