Baguio City, Philippines – To help expand crop production in the Cordillera through sustainable agriculture, various farmers group in the region are set to receive P34 million worth of technology package on Composting Facility for Biodegradable Waste (CFBW) from the country’s Department of Agriculture.

Composting Facility for Biodegradable Waste (CFBW) is a way of composting agricultural residues with organic fertilizer as its products.

Apart from helping farmers increase their production of various crops, the CFBW supports the implementation of organic farming practices and the RA 9003 or the Philippine Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.

As relayed by the Department of Agriculture- Cordillera, the government allotted 35 CFBW units for six provinces in the region in support to said pursuit.

On February 20, some of the units were initially awarded to farmers groups in Buguias, Kapangan, Mankayan, the DA- Bureau of Plant Industry, Labayan Farmers Association, I-Kapangan Farmer Entrepreneurs Organization, and Manpat-a Farmers’ Association.

Receiving the same facility is the Baguio National Crop Research Development and Production Support Center.

In a statement, Mr. Cameron Odsey, DA-CAR Regional Executive Director, expressed his support to the program and assured the safeguarding and proper usage of the given equipment.

“We assure you that this will be used properly and that the regional office will support this project. This will lessen the dependence of our Cordilleran farmers on commercial fertilizers and at the same time promote healthy soils by producing compost fertilizers,” he stated.
