Ifugao pride is the new WBO Oriental Featherweight Champion

Updated: Nov 23, 2022

Ifugao, Philippines – The 26-year-old Ifugao pride is now the new World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental Featherweight Champion after he scored a second-round knockout win over Boonrueang Phayom of Thailand in Dubai on Nov. 12, 2022.

KJ Natuplag from Lagawe, Ifugao, who likewise holds the World Boxing Council Asian featherweight title, now has a record of 11 wins with 10 knockouts, three losses, and two draws.

According to Natuplag, he did not expect to win, especially since he is not familiar with the moves of the 23-year-old Phayom.

“Medyo lugi pa ako dun kasi isa lang yung video niya na nakita ko sa laban niya. Last laban niya pa eh matagal na yun, mga past three to four years na yun. Lahat naman ng boxer nagi-improve, hindi pwedeng mag-i-i-stuck,” he said in his Facebook Live.

With his determination, he was able to succeed in his championship bout.

Natuplag thanked his trainer, sponsors, supporters, and everyone who has been part of his journey.

Meanwhile, Joepher Montaño was also proclaimed as the new WBO Oriental Welterweight Champion after winning by technical knockout against Kulbir Dhaka of India on the same day.
