Councilor, barangay captains in Isabela among 6 arrested for illegal possession of firearms

Isabela, Philippines – Among the six individuals recently nabbed for illegal possession of firearms in Barangay Centro, Sto. Tomas, Isabela were two captains, a councilor, and an employee of the local government unit, the police reported.


Responding to an intelligence report on a shooting incident in town, the Crime Detection and Investigation Division - Regional Field Unit 2 (CIDG–RFU2) served on June 05 arrest warrants against the accused for violation of RA 10591 or “Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.”

Likewise, the operation is part of the 'Oplan Paglalansag Omega' campaign of the unit in relation to the local elections scheduled for October 30, 2023.


Councilor Eduardo Talaue was caught in possession of one M1 Super 90 Shotgun, 16 shotgun ammunition, a caliber .45 Colt Pistol with 3 bullets, and one magazine, among others.


Also nabbed were incumbent Barangay San Roque Captain Francis Bangayan Mamauag with a Cal. 45 pistol, ammunition, magazine assembly and holster; and Barangay Captain of Colunguan Jimmy Paeste Jr. with Cal 5.56 M16 Armalite, Cal .45 pistol and ammunitions.

Romarico Espejo Bautista Jr. voluntarily surrendered Taurus cal. 45 with 9 ammunitions.


Meanwhile, an LGU employee named Jayson Paeste was caught with Hydra Matic M16A1 Rifle with 182 ammunition, 3 magazines, 49 Cal 9mm ammunition, and others.


While the search warrant was being served to Paeste, Joey Asco arrived and introduced himself as Paeste’s bodyguard. When searched, authorities discovered Cal. 45 pistol with 27 ammunitions. The gun and other materials were seized upon knowing that Asco is not authorized to own the same.


The officials were temporarily freed upon posting bail.
