P395.81M cash aid distributed to Cordilleran farmers in 2022

Baguio City, Philippines – A total of P395.81 million cash aid was rolled out by the Department of Agriculture – Cordillera to more than 87,000 corn and rice farmers in the region last year, the agency said on Tuesday, January 3.

The cash aid was given to beneficiaries through the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund - Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RCEF-RFFA), Fertilizer Discount Voucher (FDV) Support under the National Rice Program, and Corn Fuel Subsidy Discount.

RCEF-RFFA Program

Under the RCEF-RFFA program, the agency disclosed they were able to distribute P374.5 million to 86, 326 farmer recipients.

Each farmer received P5,000 through the said program.

The program is a direct cash transfer program that extends a P5,000 cash subsidy to each rice farmer tilling not more than two hectares to partly compensate for the projected reduction or loss of farm income due to rice tariffication.

Fertilizer Discount Voucher

For the fertilizer discount voucher program, the department said they were able to give P16.85 million worth of vouchers which covered 23,529 hectares.

“The FDV ensures the timely availability of the needed fertilizers for rice production to stabilize the rice supply situation in the country with commercial fertilizer price challenges,” said the agency.

Further, this aimed to reach the target yield of 4.22MT/ha of palay for 2023.

Corn Fuel Subsidy Discount

As to the Corn Fuel Subsidy Discount program, DA-Cordillera relayed they were able to dole out P4.46 million worth of discount cards to 1,488 corn farmers.

With this program, registered farmers to the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture and fisherfolks who are members of accredited groups owning farm machineries and small fishing boats received a discount of P3,000.

This is to aid the beneficiaries affected by high fuel prices on their operating cost in farming and fishing.
