Lubuagan, Kalinga — In preparation for their new income generating project, the young people in Barangay Dangoy, Lubuagan started training on oyster mushroom production this February 12, 2022.

Dangoy Sanguniang Kabataan Chairperson, Claydilyn Patao explained that the SK of Dangoy previously conducted the needed seminars to empower the youth such as lectures on teenage pregnancy, leadership, anti-illegal drugs, and anti-terrorism, and thus they thought about producing an income-generating project (IGP) this year.

Patao said cultivating oyster mushrooms in Lubuagan is viable as there is no one producing in the municipality yet.

The SK Chairperson added she was inspired by her mushroom plantation visit in Tabuk, where she found that with successful production, they can harvest every two days if not daily. This, she said, will be a good opportunity for the out-of-school youth in the community to participate in income-generating projects.

“Iti ikasta tatta dapat kasali met dagiay out-of-school youth, tapnu adda iti aramiden da ngay. Ti puntiryak met lang dita kasi adda met lang dagiay haan nga aguskwela, dayta kuma ma-train da,” she explained.

“Nu ag-produce tayon, dagiay out-of-school youth iti maayaban nga agbantay ken ag-harvest ta isu pag-income an da,” she added.

The production of oyster mushrooms will begin this March 2022. Generated income will be used to augment funds for youth activities in Dangoy, Patao mentioned.
