Dead old man found floating in Baggao, Cagayan Pared River

Baggao, Cagayan – An 86-year-old man was finally found on Tuesday, October 29, in Barangay Taytay, Baggao, Cagayan, after he was reported missing on October 26.

Sadly, he was already dead when retrieved by the responding team from Baggao Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Office who had been searching for the victim for three days.

The victim was identified as a certain Narciso Cristobal, a resident of Zone 3, Brgy. Taytay, Baggao, Cagayan.

His family said he had an eye problem due to his age which might have made it difficult for him to get out of the river wherein he drowned.

At 9 a.m. on October 29, a fisherman was just doing his daily routine when he chanced upon the lifeless body of Cristobal, particularly in the shallow part of the river in said barangay.

Upon retrieval of the victim’s body, it was ferried to St. Claire Funeral Homes for an examination to determine the cause of death and for postmortem care.

Another drowning victim still missing

Meanwhile, a 37-year-old man from Iguig, Cagayan, who drowned on October 25 is still the subject of a search and retrieval operation by the authorities. He was identified as a certain Jonnyfer Callueng, a resident of San Vicente, Iguig.

The man went into the swollen Cagayan River on Friday night to collect firewood. Moments later, he was swept away by the raging river water.

It was also known that he had a few shots of liquor before the incident transpired. The victim is considered as one of the casualties of Typhoon Kristine in Cagayan. The other casualty is an elderly from Tuguegarao.
