Dengue cases in Kalinga increased 335% this year; Tabuk has highest number of incidents, 582

Updated: Aug 24

Tabuk City, Kalinga - Dengue cases in Kalinga continue to rise this year and the public is reminded anew to ensure cleanliness at home to prevent the spread of the mosquito-borne illness.

The data shared by the Kalinga Provincial Health Office to Guru Press Cordillera showed that there were 1,352 cases of dengue in Kalinga from January 1 - August 17, 2024.

The figure is three times or 335 percent higher compared to the 311 cases in the same period in 2023. Fortunately, no case of death has been recorded so far.

Of the number of cases this year, Tabuk City logged the highest number with 582, followed by the municipality of Pinukpuk with 399; Pasil, 129; Lubuagan, 38; Balbalan, 30; Tanudan, 29; and Tinglayan with 24.

To prevent the spread of the virus, Kalinga PHO is encouraging the public to maintain cleanliness at home and follow the “5S” strategy against dengue.

The 5S strategy includes the search and destroy mosquito breeding sites; uphold self-protection like using insect repellents and wearing long sleeves and pants; seek early consultation at the neatest health care facility; support fogging, spraying, and misting in hot spot areas; and sustain hydration.

As for those who are experiencing signs and symptoms of dengue fever, the health office advised them to ‘seek medical consultation immediately’ to avoid serious complications or even possible death.

Common signs and symptoms of dengue fever are abdominal pain or tenderness, persistent vomiting, edema, mucosal bleeding, and lack of energy.
