Dep-Ed Apayao reports high enrolment turnout for 2023-2024

Luna, Apayao – Enrolment in the basic education for the school year 2023-2024 in Apayao reached 29,683 as of Oct. 01, as announced by Apayao Schools Division Superintendent Irene Angway.

Said figure shows a good turnout which means learners are back on track following the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. During this period, Apayao observed a decrease in enrolment as well as an increase in dropouts.

During the meeting of the Provincial Statistics Committee held at the Provincial Government Center conference hall on Oct. 08, 2023, Angway said DepEd's Learner Information System (LIS) recorded 26,735 learners who are enrolled in regular public schools; 1,610 in integrated schools; 1,129 in private schools; and 209 in a senior high school situated in an SUC.

The data further shows that more learners are enrolled in the elementary level by 21.7% compared to both junior high and senior high school enrollees.

Angway likewise reported some good news that 29 of the province's 34 secondary public institutions now provide senior high school education, adding that the SDO Apayao workforce increased efforts to identify non-learners by reaching out to remote communities and extending education to every single person. Thus, boosting the number of learners.

"To the best of our ability, we want to make sure that every child is in school, so we have already conducted personal visits to the remote areas in our province to look for learners, but based on the testimonials of residents and teachers in those areas, most school-age children have been enrolled," Angway said.

The Dep-Ed official also encouraged out-of-school youths in the community to register with the DepEd's Alternative Learning System (ALS).
