DepEd CAR tells teachers to ‘stop soliciting’ for Brigada Eskwela

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A week since the start of the Brigada Eskwela, the Department of Education Cordillera reminds teachers not to solicit for class opening preparations.

“Please stop soliciting, specifically letting teachers solicit personally or through their personal social media account,” DepEd-CAR Regional Director, Estela Leon-Cariño reminded Brigada Eskwela Coordinators, superintendents, and school heads.

The Regional Director added that while they may send letters to established partners asking for donations, teachers must, in person, not be sent to different offices and establishments asking for financial aid.

Brigada Eskwela, she said, means calling for ‘voluntary’ aid through free labor, in kind, and monetary donation.

If there are no voluntary donations, Cariño advises the schools in the region to utilize the available Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses in preparing for the opening of classes on August 22.

“Prioritize the urgent needs for a safe class opening which the MOOE can cover when your school will not receive any donations,” she conveyed, assuring teachers that the regional office is looking for funding to be downloaded to schools.

Meantime, a group of public school teachers in the country on August 10 said that teachers on the ground call themselves ‘solicitors general’ on Brigada Eskwela. They claimed that teachers even resorted to using their personal money in preparing their classrooms, but it is still not enough.

Brigada Eskwela will run until August 26, 2022.
