DILG backs IATF- MEID decision to prioritize LCEs for vaccination

Quezon City, Philippines – The Department of Interior and Local Government on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, expressed their support on the move of the palace to include Local Chief Executives (LCEs) as priority list for the vaccination under A1.5 category.

In the agency’s press release, DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año said the decision of the national government is a rightful act as governors and mayors are the ones leading their jurisdiction’s COVID-19 Task Force and that their role is vital in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s just right that they are prioritized since they perform a vital role in defeating the pandemic on the local level. In fact, all major programs of government are implemented locally by the mayors, therefore they are critical to the success of everything that we do,” Año said.

Año said that these local officials, as the law mandates, are to be in the lead in all COVID-19 efforts within their areas and to carry out policies and measures with regards to COVID-19 such as prevention, detection, isolation, treatment, and rehabilitation.

As recalled, Resolution No. 115-B of the Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) directed the inclusion of 1,634 provincial governors, city and municipal mayors to be placed under A1.5 priority list regardless of the risk classification of their areas.

A1.5 category means that LCEs are to follow for the vaccination after the first priority group, the country's health workers.
