DILG-CAR lauds pantry organizers, reiterates proper coordination

Updated: Apr 29, 2021

Baguio City, Philippines – The Department of Interior and Local Government- Cordillera (DILG-CAR) on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, commended those who had been setting-up community pantries around the region to help those in dire need due to the Covid-19 crisis.

With this, DILG –CAR OIC-Regional Director Araceli San Jose reiterated the directive for organizers to always coordinate with their respective Local Government Unit and the Philippine National Police to ensure crowd control, and that minimum health standards are observed to prevent the transmission of said virus.

“We commend our ‘Kailyans’ for establishing community pantries across the region, but as we face an increase in COVID-19 cases, we urge all of our organizers to collaborate with the LGUs in establishing civic activities to prevent transmission,” she said.

The regional director underscored that participation of the community in fighting the virus is vital since the government cannot do this alone without the cooperation of the people.

The Department, she said, supports such activities but it must be assured that organizers are following existing laws and local ordinances.

“Let us continue to demonstrate our ‘bayanihan' spirit by giving what we can while strictly adhering to our protocols,” she said.

“Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require our assistance. We don't want to lose people while trying to save them during these difficult times; our LGUs and village leaders can assist you in providing assistance,” she said.

Meanwhile, with the recent incident that a senior citizen fainted and died while lining up to a community pantry organized by actress Angel Locsin, San Jose suggested for pantry organizers to also reach out the senior citizens in their homes for them to avoid going to the community pantries.
