Do you want to be a DOST scholar? 97 Cordilleran students qualified this year

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Ninety-seven Cordilleran students qualified as scholars of the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute’s (DOST-SEI) Science and Technology (S&T) Undergraduate Scholarships this year.


Of the 97 qualifiers, 48 are covered under RA 7687 scholarship program, which is intended for talented and deserving students who belong to economically disadvantaged families, while 49 qualified for the Merit Scholarship Program – scholarships for students with high aptitude in science and mathematics.


The recipients of the program include 2 from Abra, 3 from Apayao, 57 from Baguio City, 17 from Benguet, 4 from Ifugao, 6 from Kalinga, and 8 from Mountain Province.


Qualifiers of the program are expected to receive a monthly stipend of P7,000, a tuition fee subsidy of up to P40,000 per academic year for those who will enroll in private institutions, annual book allowance, onetime MS/PE clothing allowance, one economy-class round trip fare per year for those studying outside their home province, group health and accident insurance, and thesis allowance.

The Science and Technology Department said the scholarship award will take effect in the first semester of Academic Year 2021-2022.


Notice of Award


Notice of award, according to DOST-CAR shall be emailed to the qualifiers which contain details on the schedule of their virtual orientation, a program that they should attend along with a parent/legal guardian prior to signing the Scholarship Agreement.


For those with lacking requirements will also receive a separate communication for them to complete their documents.


Names with an asterisk in the list


The agency noted that those who are marked with an asterisk on the list are those who have lacking documents that need to be submitted.


They added that some names were withheld as they are still to complete their requirements and for further evaluation.

How to avail of the scholarship


For a student to avail of the program, they are required to enroll in a priority S&T course in state universities and colleges, or in private higher education institutions recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as Centers of Excellence or Centers of Development or with at least (Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP) Level III accreditation.


Meantime, DOST –CAR said the applications for the 2022 Undergraduate Scholarship will be announced soon.
