Tuguegarao doctor among 100 modern-day “Heroes of the Year”

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – A doctor from Tuguegarao City, Cagayan was among the 100 Modern-Day Heroes of the Year 2022 recently awarded by Gawad Pilipino.

Gawad Pilipino honored frontliners during the surge of the COVID-19 including medical workers, public servants, uniformed personnel, non-government organizations, artists, and journalists.

From the onslaught of the pandemic, Dr. Christopher Ian Cabalza in his own ways helped the people as community physician.

In March 2020, his family clinic implemented protocols to solve health insecurity caused by the virus. He likewise volunteered at Medical Corps and was invited by national radio stations for information drive against COVID-19.

Part of his campaign was information dissemination through social media platforms such as Tiktok.

According to the “Hero of the Year,” his efforts and contributions come with the job.

“Ito po ay nabigyan ng recognition… Binigyan po tayo ng Medal of Honor bilang isa sa mga napakabigat na karangalan na binigay ng Gawad Pilipino at di lang po yan, kundi binigyan po tayo ng Trophy of Honor ng Hero of the Year at lalong-lalo na po ang Certificate of Recognition,” said the doctor.

In December 2022, he was acknowledged as regional finalist in the Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV) of National Economic and Development Authority – Region 2.
