'Killer of Abra lawyer has been identified' - DOJ

Bangued, Abra - The top official of the Department of Justice (DOJ) disclosed that investigators have already identified suspects in the killing of a lady lawyer in Abra.

In an interview with DZRH over the weekend, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla revealed the developments in the case and said the National Bureau of Investigation is now working on it.

"May suspects na tayo. The NBI is on top of this," Remulla said.

Remulla, however, did not disclose the identity of the possible perpetrators.

Meantime, a top official of the Philippine National Police said it is premature to connect the killing to the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections since the lawyer was just involved with human rights concerns.

To recall, Abra lawyer Ma. Saniata Gonzales-Alzate died while being treated at the Seares Memorial Hospital in Bangued after being shot multiple times by a riding tandem.

Alzate was inside her white Mitsubishi Mirage G4 sedan parked in front of their gate when the shooting incident transpired.

In the CCTV footage, it can be seen that the back rider was the first one to shoot the victim multiple times, and while they were about to leave the scene, the driver stopped beside the car and shot the lawyer numerous times as well.
