‘Don’t buy adulterated feeds; they may contain pathogens,’ DA-CAR warns hog raisers

Updated: Oct 9, 2022

Baguio City, Philippines –The Department of Agriculture (DA) has warned hog raisers in Cordillera against buying adulterated feeds as these may contain pathogens which could put the lives of their hogs and poultry animals at risk.

Ms. Jovelyn Valenciano of DA-CAR Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information issued the warning on Tuesday, October 4, amid reports on adulterated feeds or unlabeled feeds being sold at the market.

Valenciano stressed that RA 1556 or the ‘Livestock and Poultry Feeds Act’ prohibits the selling and buying of such feeds.

With said law, she warned sellers not to sell “fake feeds” or adulterated feeds.

“Ballaag daytoy [RA 1556] kadagiti agilaklako wenno agar-aramid iti kastuy nga kinakinnuber nga aramid nga aglaku kayo iti peke. Imbes nga kuna tayo nga matulongan tayo dagiti farmers, haan gayam ta mas lalo nga madadael dagituy produkto da”, Valenciano stated in a radio program of Mt. province Broadcasting Corporation.

Supporting Valenciano’s statement, Lito Mocati, Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer of the agricultural department told the public to only buy feeds sold by trusted feed sellers.

The public, he added, must see to it that the seller has an up-to-date- license to operate, and when buying their products, buyers should check on the expiration date.
