While the Aggalao family is desperately finding means to have 19-year-old Arlene be treated for lupus, unscrupulous individuals scammed them out of the financial assistance donated by people this October 13, 2022.
The story of college student Arlene Odam Aggalao of Aciga, Pinukpuk who is battling lupus was published by Guru Press Cordillera on October 12. Since then, the family received around P5,500 on their GCash account.
However, at around 6:00 PM of October 13, a man who posed as vlogger ‘Katagumpay’ duped them and took the P5,500.
Arlene’s older sister, Elviejoy Aggalao Ali told Guru Press that they just finished their Bible study past 6:00 PM yesterday when she received a call from an unknown number.
The caller who was talking in Filipino introduced himself as the vlogger ‘Katagumpay’ and expressed his desire to send help to the family for Arlene’s medication.
Elviejoy recounted that the caller asked her about some information and told her he will be sending P45,000.
Among the questions asked by the caller was the GCash account and the birthday of Elviejoy’s husband since the account was named to him.
Then the man told him that a 6-digit number will be sent to her and that she will have to read it for him.
“Haan kon gamin kinitan ma’am ta diay riknak ket siyempre adda kami iti kastuy nga sitwasyon ket talaga nga kailangan mi iti kwarta kasi nu Monday talaga mai-release iti agas ni ading ko,” she explained.
Little did she know, the amount on their GCash was already stolen while she was still talking to the alleged ‘vlogger’. Elviejoy was even told by the caller to go to the nearest store to cash out the supposed P45,000.
It was only later that Elviejoy realized that something was off. When she had the caller talk to other person at their boarding house in Baguio City, it was then that the man ended the call.
Now only P50 left in her wallet
Elviejoy said she was supposed to cash out the P5,500 today, October 14, in order to buy the needs of Arlene and to be able to pay her medicines which are expected to be released on Monday, October 17.
“Isu nga permi ma’am haan nak makaturturog. Ket i-cash out ko pay kuma tatta ma’am kasi iti laman na daytoy pitakak, P50 laengen. Permi nga nagsakit ma’am ta i-cash out ko kuma nga talaga tattan ta apan ko kuma igatangan iti kasapulan ni ading ko ta awan pay sweldo ni lakay ko, awan pay sahod ni ading ko,” she lamented.
Meantime, the GCash account has already been secured, according to Elviejoy.
To those who wish to send any amount to the family, you may send to Luis Ali’s GCash, 09959835108. You may also contact Elviejoy through 09050732963.
