Baguio City, Philippines - Mayor Benjamin Magalong encouraged the public to voluntarily donate any amount to aid public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers amid the fuel price hikes affecting the country and traffic congestions in Baguio city.

In a statement published on Sunday, June 26 thru the Public Information Office - City of Baguio, Magalong said “donations are welcome like letting the jeepney or taxi driver keep your change or giving an extra amount on top of the regular fare.”

Such act, he explained, shows gratitude, appreciation, and concern, and motivates drivers to carry on with their job despite the challenges.

Donations should be voluntary, not mandatory

Magalong warned that the donation should be done voluntarily.

The people in the city, he stressed, should not be forced to give nor be obliged to pay specific amount.

“We do not allow that,” said the mayor, urging strict monitoring and reporting of the public and concerned officials.
