Tabuk City, Kalinga – More than a hundred aspiring scientists and engineers in Tabuk City join thousands of students seeking to be the next recipients of the Department of Science and Technology undergraduate scholarship, one of the most sought-after grants in the country.

Among the privileges of the DOST undergraduate grant include P40,000 school fee per academic year with up to P10,000 for summer class if required in the curriculum, annual P10,000 learning materials or connectivity allowance, P8,000 monthly living allowance, and P10,000 thesis allowance.

One of the steps towards the scholarship is passing the qualifying examination which always draws large numbers of students. Just like in 2024, there were more than 89,000 takers in the entire Philippines, but only 10,756 were qualified.

For 2025, 135 incoming college freshmen from Tabuk City, Kalinga took their chance to be among the DOST grantees by appearing at the Tabuk City National High School on April 5 – 6 to take the qualifying examination.

According to DOST Kalinga Provincial Director Jasmin Lee Donaal, students with the highest scores will be ranked nationally for the limited slots. The grantees will be announced in June 2025.

With the successful conduct of the examination, Donaal thanked their partner agencies and organizations such as the DepEd Tabuk City and the Kalinga Association of Innovative DOST Scholars. She likewise congratulated the 135 examinees for showing up and finishing the examination.

“Let us aim to increase the number of scholars in our province by sharing about the available DOST scholarships to increase the number of applicants not only for undergraduate but graduate scholarships,” she encouraged.
