Tabuk City, Kalinga – During a recent visit to Kalinga, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary, Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr. commended Kalinga State University (KSU) technology and innovation center for its accomplishments.

The DOST Secretary arrived in the province on February 19, 2025, for the unveiling of the province’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Plan 2024-2028 and the launching of the Tabuk City Smart and Sustainable Community Hub.

The goal of his visit is to spur progress and development in the province through the advancement of its scientific and technological research.

On February 20, 2025, Solidum stopped at Kalinga State University’s Rizal Campus to visit the campus’s Mulberry Farm and Silk Innovation Center, then at KSU Main Campus to see the university’s Technology and Innovation Center where University President, Dr. Joy Grace Doctor warmly received him and his team.

Solidum, during the formal program at the main campus, described KSU as ‘the most caring university in the Philippines,’ which he referred to the school’s name, “Kalinga”.

"Ngayon naman ay nag-isip ako na kapag sinabing KSU… Di naman Kulang sa Usapan, kundi ang ibig sabihin ay Kalinga Sa Unibersidad," he added.

Solidum continued by praising the past and present leaders of the university for putting up its Technology and Innovation Center, saying, “I’m very glad that you already have an existing building for your technology and business”.

The Secretary then highlighted the four key pillars, which became the guide of the DOST to leverage progress in the country. These include promoting human well-being, fostering wealth creation, reinforcing wealth protection, and institutionalizing sustainability.

These four strategic pillars, according to him, are the agency’s guide to promoting job creation, regional development in science, technology, and innovation, food security, health security, water security, environmental protection, among others.

Solidum believes that by combining research and profit-making, KSU can significantly enhance the effectiveness of the projects they do, create job opportunities, and increase profitability.

“Pag ginawa po natin yun, uunlad po ang ating bansa, uunlad din po ang inyong probinsya,” he concluded.
