DPWH-Baguio City District Engineering denies allegations of corruption and substandard road projects

Baguio City, Philippines – Department of Public Works and Highways - Baguio City District Engineering Office (DPWH-BCDEO) belied the allegations of Mayor Benjamin Magalong over corruption and substandard city road projects.

Magalong earlier expressed dismay on the projects implemented by the agency, describing them as ‘waste of money’ and unless the city government files cases, the corruption of the agency will not stop.

In its defense, the DPWH-BCDEO cited the inspections made by DPWH Central Office in the previous years which states otherwise.

According to the office, there were only defects in the projects but they are not substandard.

“Sa defects, hindi substandard. May defects. Yung crack is a defect that can be remedied through rectification,” said Glenn Reyes, the Assistant District Engineer of BCDEO through PTV Cordillera.

The office affirmed that the defects were already rectified even before the mayor conducted inspections.

DPWH-BCDEO further blacklisted nine contractors in the city due to inferior quality of their works.
