Rescue driver who responded to accident in Cagayan dies in road crash



Sanchez Mira, Cagayan – The driver of a rescue car of the Task Force Lingkod - Cagayan -Sanchez Mira died following a crash on January 1, 2023.


Police officers said the driver, along with his 3 passengers, just sent the victims of a road crash to a hospital when they met the tragic accident along the road in Barangay Callungan.

According to a report, when the rescuers arrived at the scene, the driver identified as John Leo Fuertes, 32, also the chief of TFLC Sanchez Mira lost control of the vehicle after it avoided a ‘kulong-kulong’ with no tail light, causing their car to crash into a post.


The rescue ambulance eventually overturned and with the impact, Fuertes, along with his two companions were thrown out of the vehicle while the other passenger was left inside the vehicle.


This killed the victim and injured the three passengers identified as Roger Balanay, 54; John Wesley Banay, 21; and Flordelino Ringor, 42.


They were ferried to Cagayan Valley Medical Center but Fuertes was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, while the three are currently undergoing medication.


Meantime, it was known that there were no streetlights at the accident scene.
