Cagayan, Philippines – A drunk cop faces administrative and criminal cases after assaulting two construction workers in Sta. Praxedes, Cagayan.

The cop was immediately relieved from duty, pending the resolution of cases.

His fellow police identified the alleged erring official as Police Corporal Eufrecino Javier Jr., a resident of Sta. Ana Cagayan and currently appointed at PNP Sta. Praxedes.

Investigation said the incident happened on the morning of July 20, 2022, but was only reported the next day, July 21 after a video of the suspect maltreating two construction workers was uploaded on social media.

The Spokesperson of the PNP Cagayan, Captain Isabelita Gano, through Cagayan Provincial Information Office, said Javier was under the influence of alcohol while on duty and was not wearing his uniform when the incident happened.

Gano said the victims were known as Johny Balanay, 23, from Union, Claveria, and Fidel Oroceo, 54, residents of Barangay Nagrangtayan, Sanchez Mira.

The captain said that although Balanay’s case was not seen in the video, the victim narrated that Javier moved near him and abruptly yanked his hair before striking him. Out of fear, Balanay avoided Javier right away.

The suspect somehow followed to harass Oroceo who was sitting nearby.

Javier was said to have forced the 54-year-old man to take his cigarette, but Oroceo refused the offer because he does not smoke.

The police officer was annoyed and hit Fidel’s head, later using his slipper to slap the victim’s body.

Police Provincial Director Renell Sabaldica said they do not condone such actions by the police and if dismissal shall be the penalty, the police will not regret dismissing one of their comrades.

Sabaldica said the regional headquarters will handle both administrative and criminal cases against the suspect.
